My picks for best heavy music of 2024

Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To

Hard to believe that the latest band to break out from the genre into the mainstream is so heavy. Pig squeals on late night TV, let's go.

ERRA - CURE

If this album doesn't make you want to pick up a guitar there's something wrong with you.

Cane Hill - a piece of me i never let you find.

I think this is the freshest sound in metalcore right now.

Poppy - Negative Spaces

If they're all around us doesn't get used in a zombie film soundtrack I'll be disappointed.

Better Lovers - Highly Irresponsible

One of the best opening tracks to an album ever.

Alpha Wolf - Half Living Things

Nu metal vibes, if you couldn't tell from the cover.

Speed - ONLY ONE MODE

In which the frontman being a classically-trained flutist leads to the crossover we didn't know we needed.

Night Verses - Every Sound Has A Color In The Valley Of Night

Guys who can really play their instruments, with no singing (or screaming). Kind of like a heavier Animals as Leaders.

House of Protection - GALORE

Late addition. Members of The Chariot and Night Verses, but doesn't sound like it.

Ocean Grove - ODDWORLD

Another late addition, which has grown on me a lot. By far the best work since their incredible debut album The Rhapsody Tapes.
